NGO demand for a better EU chemicals policy, originally agreed in December 1999, named the 'Copenhagen Charter' at a conference in October 2000. Supported by a large number of NGOs, including the European Environmental Bureau, Friends of the Earth, WWF, European Consumers Organisation, Danish Ecological Council, the Danish Consumer Council, and the Danish Society for the Conservation of Nature.

The Social Cost of Chemicals

Conducted by leading cost-benefit expert Dr. David Pearce, the report finds that the UK could save over 74.9 billion Euro in health expenditure over the next 17 years due to reduced impacts of chemicals on well-being, if the European Union pushes through its proposed Chemicals Regulations. The report makes clear that the benefits of REACH exceed its projected costs.
